Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment
Private Insurance Germany is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.
Standards We Follow
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities, including:
- Visual impairments (blindness, low vision, color blindness)
- Hearing impairments
- Motor impairments
- Cognitive and learning disabilities
Accessibility Features
Our website includes the following accessibility features:
- Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements (links, buttons, forms, modals) are fully accessible via keyboard. Modal dialogs can be closed with the Escape key.
- Screen reader support: We use semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and proper heading hierarchy to ensure screen readers can navigate our content effectively.
- Color contrast: Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
- Dark mode: A dark theme is available for users who prefer or need reduced brightness. It can be toggled via the theme switcher in the navigation bar.
- Reduced motion: Animations and transitions are minimized or disabled for users who have enabled the "prefers-reduced-motion" setting in their operating system.
- Focus indicators: Visible focus outlines are provided for all interactive elements when navigating with a keyboard.
- Form validation: All forms provide clear error messages with ARIA attributes so that assistive technologies can communicate validation status.
- Responsive design: Content is accessible and readable across all screen sizes, from mobile phones to large desktop monitors.
- Text sizing: A text size toggle is available for users who prefer larger text.
Known Limitations
While we strive for full compliance, some areas may have limitations:
- Blog content: Some blog posts are loaded from our WordPress CMS and may not fully meet all accessibility standards. We are working with our content team to improve this.
- SVG charts: Interactive charts in our calculator and cost projection tools use SVG elements that may not be fully accessible to all screen readers. Text alternatives and summary data are provided alongside charts.
- Third-party content: Some embedded content from external services may not meet our accessibility standards.
Testing
We regularly test our website using:
- Automated tools (Lighthouse, axe DevTools)
- Manual keyboard navigation testing
- Screen reader testing (VoiceOver on macOS, NVDA on Windows)
- Color contrast analysis tools
- Browser zoom up to 200%
